Many children and adolescents with ADHD show patterns of behaviour that can seem confusing or inconsistent, and these signs can look very different from one child to another
Learn how ADHD can show up in children and teens – sometimes in unexpected ways.
If these sound familiar, you're not alone. An accurate assessment can help you understand and support your child better.
MindPath ADHD Assessment
For many children and young people with ADHD, everyday experiences can feel overwhelming or hard to make sense of. It’s not that they choose to behave differently; it’s that their brains process and respond to the world in ways that aren’t always visible to those around them.
Some children and young people may excel in creative or hands-on activities, yet struggle with tasks that require sustained attention or sitting still. These uneven patterns can make it difficult for parents and educators to see the full picture, leading to uncertainty about what support is needed.
What looks like daydreaming, defiance, or a lack of effort may actually reflect genuine difficulty with focus, emotional regulation, task-switching, or organising their thoughts and actions. These hidden challenges are often misread, causing the young person’s behaviour to seem inconsistent or hard to understand.
An expert-led ADHD assessment delivered by a multidisciplinary team of two psychologists, designed to cut waiting times and remove the need for multiple evaluations - giving your family clear answers, quickly and affordably.
If your child struggles with focus or routines, an ADHD assessment can provide clarity and practical support. It’s not just a diagnosis — it’s understanding and guidance you can use immediately.
A professional assessment helps explain patterns you may have noticed on your child, like difficulty staying on task, sudden bursts of energy, or trouble managing emotions. This gives you clarity about why these things happen, not just what they look like.
Once you know how ADHD shows up for your child, you can choose tools and supports that actually work for them. That might include changes at school, routines at home, or targeted skill-building that respects your child’s way of thinking and learning.
Assessment isn’t the end. In fact, it’s the beginning of getting the right help. We can guide you toward ongoing advice, therapy options, coaching, or school-based supports that match your child’s needs, so they feel understood and encouraged.
If your child or teenager is finding school, friendships, or daily routines more difficult than expected, an ADHD assessment can be the turning point. It goes beyond a diagnosis, as it gives you and your child a clear understanding of how their brain works, and what support will actually make a difference.
Your journey begins with a targeted online pre-assessment designed to capture a clear picture of your child’s strengths and challenges. Once completed, a free follow-up call with one of our clinicians will help guide you towards the most appropriate next step.
A clinician meets with you and your child to explore developmental history, behaviour patterns, and daily functioning. Teacher feedback is also gathered to ensure a well-rounded understanding of how your child presents across different environments.
A second clinician conducts the Young DIVA-5 structured interview for ages 6–17, based on DSM-5 ADHD criteria. QBCheck testing is also completed at this stage, providing objective data on attention, impulsivity, and activity levels. Having two clinicians involved ensures a balanced and accurate clinical picture.
Following the assessments, you receive a comprehensive diagnostic report outlining the clinical findings and a clear conclusion on whether ADHD criteria are met. The report includes practical recommendations for school, home, and daily life, and is followed by a dedicated feedback session to walk you through the results and next steps.
We have an expert Ireland-based Multidisciplinary Team to help you on your journey. All of our psychologists are Members of the PSI & Trained to provide Children and Adolescents Assessments & Diagnosis
Our ADHD assessment process gives families a clearer, more affordable, and timely path to understanding their child. Rather than navigating multiple separate evaluations, you get a comprehensive and expert-led assessment that brings everything together; so you can find answers faster and with confidence.
We use trusted tools and multiple sources of information so that ADHD is understood accurately in the context of school, home, peers, and everyday life. Ages: 6-17
A structured online questionnaire that begins the assessment process for your child or teen.
After completion, you receive a free follow-up call with a clinician who will review the results with you, answer questions, and explain the best path forward for your child.
During the first clinician session, a psychologist meets with you and your child to explore their developmental history, behaviour patterns, and daily functioning across home and school.

MindPath Benefits
MindPath is an Irish online clinic offering gold-standard, multi-modal ADHD assessments for children and adolescents aged 6–17. Our service is designed for parents or guardians who are concerned about their child’s attention, behaviour, or learning, and want a clinically rigorous, accessible, and affordable path to answers.
Yes. All assessments are led and signed off by psychologists registered with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). Our reports are designed to meet the standards required by CAMHS, the HSE, the NCSE, and the Department of Education.
MindPath assesses children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 17 years old.
Yes. Research consistently shows that clinical interviews and gold-standard rating scales are highly effective via telehealth. MindPath’s protocol includes two separate clinical observations, standardised informant forms, and an objective computerised test (QBCheck), ensuring the same rigour as a traditional in-person assessment.
Psychologists do not prescribe medication. However, if a diagnosis is made and medication is considered an appropriate next step, our in-house psychiatrist can consult with you and your child and advise on the best medication route.
Multi-modal means we do not rely on a single source of information. We triangulate data from three pillars: (1) subjective reports from parents and teachers via standardised forms, (2) clinical interviews covering developmental history and symptoms, and (3) objective computerised testing via QBCheck. This comprehensive approach is considered the gold standard for ADHD diagnosis.
The full assessment pathway has 10 steps: (1) Online Pre-Assessment, (2) Parent informant forms, (3) Teacher informant forms, (4) Clinical Interview Session 1 with Psychologist 1, (5) Informant Follow-Up, (6) Clinical Interview Session 2 with Psychologist 2, (7) QBCheck computerised test, (8) Data triangulation and report writing, (9) Feedback and Reporting Call, and (10) Aftercare referral if needed.
We use a multidisciplinary model to maximise objectivity and diagnostic accuracy. Psychologist 1 focuses on developmental history using the Conners 4™ framework. Psychologist 2 conducts the Young DIVA-5 diagnostic interview and synthesises all data. This ‘second pair of eyes’ approach significantly reduces bias and increases the reliability of the final conclusion.
Between the two clinical sessions, MindPath contacts the parent and/or teacher to clarify any inconsistencies or gaps in the data (e.g., if the parent reports many symptoms but the teacher sees none). This quality-control step ensures the clinical picture is clean and complete before the final diagnostic interview takes place.
Once all informant forms from both parent and teacher have been submitted, the clinical sessions and final report typically take 3 to 4 weeks. The most common cause of delay is waiting for the teacher to return their forms, so we encourage parents to inform the school as early as possible.
QBCheck is a scientifically validated, computer-based clinical tool that measures three core ADHD indicators: sustained attention, motor impulsivity, and activity level (movement). It uses a webcam to track the child’s head movement during a cognitive task, producing objective, quantifiable data (e.g., ‘movement is in the 99th percentile for age and gender’). This complements the subjective reports from parents and teachers and is completed after Session 2.
Your child only needs a laptop or desktop computer with a functional webcam and a stable internet connection. The parent should set up the computer and ensure the environment is quiet and free of distractions, but the child must complete the task independently.
No. The QBCheck has no pass or fail outcome. It compares your child’s attention and activity levels to a normative group of children of the same age and gender, providing a clinical benchmark, not a judgment.
The Young DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults, adapted for young people) is a semi-structured clinical interview considered the gold standard for ADHD diagnosis in children and adolescents. It systematically examines every DSM-5 symptom of ADHD, asking for concrete, real-world examples from the child’s everyday life at home, at school, and with peers.
The Conners 4™ is a globally recognised, gold-standard tool for rating ADHD symptom severity. During Session 1, Psychologist 1 guides the parent through the Conners 4™ framework, exploring specific behaviours, developmental history, and early milestones to build a precise clinical timeline of when difficulties began.
A ‘non-diagnosis’ is still a valuable and meaningful clinical outcome. It means your child’s difficulties may be better explained by another condition, such as anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or a learning difficulty, and the report will still include tailored recommendations on how to support them. It also prevents your child from receiving an incorrect or unnecessary treatment pathway.
Don’t let uncertainty about your child’s attention, behaviour, or learning patterns hold you back.
For €9.99, our structured ADHD Pre-Assessment for children and teens is the first step in understanding your child’s needs. It helps indicate whether a full ADHD assessment may be helpful and includes a free follow-up call with a clinician to explain the results and discuss the next steps for your family.
