MindPath AuDHD Assessment

Living with an Internal Contradiction?

Without a diagnosis, many AuDHD adults live in a state of constant internal conflict which leads to severe burnout and confusion about their true identity.

AuDHD Assessment

A Cycle of Partial Diagnoses

Often, only the more “visible” condition, either ADHD or Autism, is recognised, leaving the other to cause unexplained challenges and a feeling that the full picture is missing.

AuDHD Assessment

The Masking Effect of AuDHD

The traits of Autism and ADHD can mask each other. Impulsive ADHD traits can hide autistic social withdrawal, while autistic routines can compensate for ADHD’s executive dysfunction, making a correct diagnosis quite difficult.

AuDHD Assessment

Integrated AuDHD Assessments, Accessible for All

MindPath’s integrated model removes the need for two separate and expensive assessments. We reduce your wait time and provide a more affordable, expert-led pathway, helping you get the complete answers you deserve, faster.

Our AuDHD Pathway

Our Online Pre-Assessment is the first step toward untangling your unique profile. For €14.99, it uses a comprehensive set of validated tools to provide initial clarity on your next steps.

Crucially, this includes a Free Follow-Up Call with one of our clinicians. In this call, you’ll receive expert guidance on the correct diagnostic path for you, be it for AuDHD, Autism-only, or ADHD-only.

This targeted service helps you save money by making sure you only proceed with the assessment that truly fits your needs and the traits you exhibit on the pre-assessment.

AuDHD Assessment

How an AuDHD Assessment Could Help You

If you’ve spent your life feeling like a walking contradiction, craving routine but needing novelty, wanting social connection but feeling overwhelmed, an AuDHD assessment provides the “why”.

It’s not just about two labels; it’s about understanding how they intersect and discovering integrated strategies to finally work with your brain, not against it. We’re here to guide you with truly tailored support.

AuDHD Assessment

AuDHD Assessment Process

#1: Pre-Assessment

Your initial step is a targeted online pre-assesment designed to provide preliminary clarity on your unique profile.

This includes a crucial one-on-one consultation with a clinician to interpret your report and guide your next steps.

#2.1: Assessment 1 (Autism Focus)

In this 60-90 minute assessment with your specialised clinician, you will explore the autistic aspects of your experience using the ADOS-2. Your psychologist will observe social communication and interaction, while remaining aware to how ADHD traits might influence your presentation.

#2.2: Assessment 2 (ADHD Focus)

The focus of this session moves to your ADHD profile, guided by the structured DIVA-5 interview. Your clinician will investigate patterns of attention and executive function, but simultaneously, carefully observing how autistic characteristics might mask or compensate for these symptoms.

#3: Diagnostic Report

This document synthesises all findings against the official DSM-V criteria. It brings together the clinician’s nuanced observations, a full breakdown of your scores, and a set of personalised recommendations designed for the AuDHD mind. The process concludes with a feedback session between you and your clinician to walk you through your diagnosis.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the MindPath Dual AuDHD Assessment?

It is an integrated assessment process designed specifically for adults who suspect they have both Autism (ASD) and ADHD. Instead of two separate, disjointed evaluations, we use a seamless and clinically-informed process to accurately identify and understand how both neurotypes present and interact in one individual.

This assessment is for adults who feel that neither an ADHD nor an autism diagnosis on its own fully explains their experience. You might relate to the feeling of being a ‘walking contradiction’, craving routine but being unable to stick to it, or being highly empathetic but struggling with social cues. If you relate strongly to traits of both, this assessment is for you.

A dual assessment is far more accurate. When assessed separately, autistic traits like hyperfocus can be mistaken for ADHD inattention, or ADHD-driven social impulsivity can mask underlying autistic social difficulties. Our integrated approach allows the clinician to see the whole picture, disentangle the overlapping traits, and provide a coherent diagnostic conclusion.

Our clinicians are not just experts in one field; they are specifically trained and experienced in the complex presentation of co-occurring autism and ADHD in adults. They are proficient in both the ADOS-2 for autism and structured clinical interviews for ADHD, and they are all PSI members.

How does the AuDHD Pre-Assessment work?

The AuDHD Pre-Assessment is a crucial first step. You’ll complete a comprehensive set of questionnaires that screen for the traits of both autism and ADHD. This provides our clinical team with a foundational understanding of your unique profile and helps confirm that the full dual assessment is the most appropriate and valuable next step.

This is a deliberate clinical strategy. We start with the autism-focused session (using adapted ADOS-2 methods) to observe your foundational social communication and interaction styles. The second, ADHD-focused session (a structured clinical interview) then explores your history of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. This separation allows the clinician to assess each neurotype clearly before integrating the findings.

While the Pre-Assessment can be done at your own pace, the full process is designed for clarity and efficiency. After the two live sessions are complete, you can typically expect to receive your final, comprehensive report and schedule your reporting call within 3 days.

What is included in the final AuDHD Diagnostic Report?

You will receive one comprehensive, integrated report. It will include a clear diagnostic conclusion for both ASD and ADHD, a detailed breakdown of the relevant traits, and the crucial ‘disentanglement’ analysis explaining how they coexist. Most importantly, it will feature a single set of personalised recommendations that account for the unique challenges and strengths of your AuDHD profile.

‘Disentangling’ is the most important part of the process. Your clinician will analyse how your traits interact. For example, they will differentiate between social challenges caused by autistic differences in understanding social rules versus those caused by ADHD-related inattention or impulsivity. This analysis explains the ‘why’ behind your experiences, not just the ‘what.’

The reporting call is a dedicated one-on-one session with your clinician to discuss the findings of your report. It’s an opportunity for you to ask questions, develop a deeper understanding of your diagnosis, and talk through the personalised recommendations. We believe a diagnosis should be a conversation, not just a document.

What exactly is AuDHD?

AuDHD is a term used to describe the experience of being both Autistic and having ADHD. It is not a separate diagnosis, but the co-occurrence of two distinct neurotypes. An AuDHD individual has a brain that operates with both the autistic need for structure, patterns, and deep focus, and the ADHD need for novelty, stimulation, and interest-based motivation.

This is the central experience of AuDHD; living with internal contradictions. For example, the autistic part of you may create a detailed plan for the day, while the ADHD part of you lacks the executive function or motivation to initiate it. This internal push-and-pull is a hallmark of the AuDHD experience.

A common example is having intense, autistic-style special interests, but the ADHD part of your brain causes you to cycle through them rapidly. Another is experiencing autistic social confusion while the ADHD part of you is impulsive, causing you to say something you later analyse endlessly.

It can be a confusing mix. The ADHD brain may crave social interaction and novelty, pushing you into social situations. However, the autistic brain finds the same situation overwhelming, draining, and difficult to navigate. This can lead to a ‘social battery’ that drains quickly, resulting in cycles of being social and then needing to isolate completely.

This is an intense form of executive dysfunction where the brain gets completely stuck. It often happens when the autistic need for a logical plan clashes with the ADHD brain’s inability to start a task, prioritise steps, or overcome a lack of stimulation. The result is a state of being mentally and physically frozen, unable to do anything at all.

Yes, it is often more complex. An AuDHD individual may use their ADHD impulsivity and sociability to ‘mask’ their underlying autistic social difficulties. However, this mask can be inconsistent and exhausting, leading to a feeling of being misunderstood or having an unstable sense of self.

AuDHD burnout is a profound state of exhaustion caused by simultaneously managing two different neurological ‘operating systems.’ It’s the combined result of autistic burnout (from sensory overload and masking) and ADHD burnout (from executive dysfunction and struggling to meet demands).

Of course. When the traits work together, AuDHD can be a powerful combination. It can lead to creativity (ADHD out-of-the-box thinking combined with autistic deep focus), a unique ability to see patterns others miss, and a passionate, justice-oriented drive for subjects of intense interest.

Historically, diagnostic guidelines often prevented clinicians from diagnosing both conditions in the same person. Furthermore, research has historically focused on young boys, missing how AuDHD presents more subtly in adults, particularly women, who often develop highly sophisticated masking strategies. Thankfully, clinical understanding is now catching up with people’s lived reality.

Ready to Take the First Step?

Don’t let the confusion of overlapping traits hold you back any longer.

For €14.99, our integrated Pre-Assessment is the crucial first step to understanding your unique profile and determining if a full AuDHD, Autism, or ADHD assessment is needed.
